Watchung Mom Launches New Fit4Mom Franchise

Fatima DeCorte plans a pre-opening event in Westfield's Unami Park, Saturday.

After having her son 10 months ago, group fitness instructor Fatima DeCorte knew she wanted to find a way to incorporate her new baby into her workouts.

A Watchung resident who previously lived in Clark, DeCorte discovered Stroller Strides, a fitness program that allows moms to exercise and spend time with their children and includes power walking and intervals of strength and body toning exercises using exercise tubing, the stroller and the environment. Finding the program to be "amazing," DeCorte said she immediately wanted to share the program with moms in the Westfield/Cranford area.

DeCorte decided to start her own franchise of Fit4Mom, the country's largest fitness program for moms offering pre- and post-natal fitness classes for every stage of motherhood. This month, the instructor, with a certification in pre- and post-natal fitness from Fit4Mom, will kick off Stroller Strides classes, with a grand opening scheduled for 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday in Unami Park.

"The grand opening would be a great event for families to get outside, enjoy a workout, and enjoy door prizes and snacks," DeCorte said.

For those interested in learning more about the program, Fit4Mom will host a meet-and-greet from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Westfield Running Company.

"This will give moms the opportunity to come in, learn more about the program, and get some useful exercises that can be done with their little one," DeCorte said. "Our mission is to helps moms make strides in fitness, motherhood and life. We focus on helping moms achieve their ultimate potential, both physically and emotionally. We support, educate, and inspire moms to reach optimal health and well being. We also help moms set a great example for their kids by making fitness a part of their lives."
