2 NJ Cops Save Woman Trapped In Burning Home, Both Hospitalized
One of the police officers is in "more serious" condition, according to the local mayor.
PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — Two Passaic County police officers were hospitalized after saving a woman trapped in her burning home, officials said.
On Monday, around 10:15 a.m., first responders were called to a home on Ringwood Avenue in Pompton Lakes on a report of a house fire.
Arriving first were two Pompton Lakes police officers, who ran into the building to save a woman trapped in the blaze, Mayor Michael Serra told Patch.

The woman was safely rescued from the engulfed house; however, both of the officers were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. One of the officers is doing "better," and one is in "more serious" condition, according to the mayor.
The mayor said that the fire has since been extinguished, but the single-family home is "totaled." He added that the strong winds on Monday morning caused the roof to catch fire, burning a hole in it.
