Annual Wayne Football Rivalry Game Is Friday, Supporting Sivolella Scholarship

The Wayne Hills Patriots head to Valley for Friday night's matchup, and fans of both teams will again be wearing orange for Rocco Sivolella.

WAYNE, NJ — Another chapter in the Wayne high school football rivalry will be written Friday, as the Wayne Valley Indians host the Wayne Hills Patriots for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff.

Wayne Hills has posted a 1-3 record so far this season, while Valley is still searching for its first victory.

And, fans of both teams will pull on orange shirts, hoodies, and other gear to2 fill the stands in memory of Rocco Sivolella, the Valley freshman who died last year of acute myeloid leukemia. Orange is the color of awareness for leukemia, a blood cancer.

The Rocco Sivolella Memorial Scholarship is be given annually to a student-athlete from each Wayne high school.

Victory Athletic was also selling orange "One Town, One Heart" shirts with proceeds going to the scholarship; sales have ended. T-shirt and hoodie pickup for students at both high schools is Thursday during lunch block, according to Instagram posts from the school cheerleading accounts. Family and friends can do a porch pick-up at 6 Veteri Place.

As far as both teams' records go, Wayne Hills lost their first three games this season before rallying for a 28-9 win at North Bergen on Sept. 14. Wayne Valley has yet to record a victory this season, sitting 0-4 headed into the cross-town clash.
