WAYNE, NJ — Another new Wawa is coming to Wayne Township, this one on Hamburg Turnpike.

The township planning board approved the project at Monday's meeting after hearing from company representatives.

Property owners Spylen Development are planning a 5,915-square-foot Wawa market with six fuel pumps, according to documents filed with the planning board. The proposed 24-hour store and gas station would have 57 parking spots, including three parking spaces for handicapped drivers and two spaces for electric vehicles.

All Wawa locations are open 365 days of the year.

The existing restaurant building was most recently the Hibachi Grill Buffet, and also is the former location of Casey O'Toole's. The developer would tear down that building and a residential structure on the 2.35-acre property to build the Wawa.

This project still has to be approved by county officials.

Wawa opened their first Passaic County store on Route 23 North in Wayne this past December. Another site is currently in the works on the southbound side of Route 23, a company representative said.
