With Highs In The 90s This Week, Here's Where To Stay Cool In Wayne

Forecasters are predicting a high near 100 degrees in Wayne Township later this week.

WAYNE, NJ — Hot and humid conditions are in store for Wayne Township this week, with forecasters warning of dangerously high temperatures in some parts of New Jersey.

A heat wave is expected to linger in the region through this week, with National Weather Service forecasters predicting high temperatures near 100 degrees on Thursday and Friday. There won't be much relief at night, as overnight temperatures will be in the 70s, and it will stay humid.

Passaic County is under a heat advisory from noon Tuesday through 8 p.m. Wednesday, with heat index values between 95 and 100 degrees expected during the afternoon and early evening on those days. AccuWeather forecasters say that the peak of the heat wave could hit on Thursday - which is the start of astronomical summer.

Certain groups are more vulnerable to the dangers of extreme heat, forecasters said, including babies and children, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses. During heat waves like this, Passaic County towns and cities will open cooling centers for people in need of somewhere to beat the heat.

The township has a designated cooling center at Wayne Public Library, which is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
