Jets To Fund Wayne Valley High School's 1st Girls Flag Football Team

63 Wayne Valley girls attended the general-interest meeting. Officials expect the team to start this spring.

WAYNE, NJ — A squad of girls at Wayne Valley High School is ready for some football. The school will have a girls flag football team for the first time, thanks to funding from the Jets.

The Jets offered an $8,000 grant to Wayne Township Public Schools so Wayne Valley High School could start its first girls flag football program. The Board of Education approved the grant Thursday.

“When we launched the first-ever girls flag football league in New Jersey last year, we sought to inspire and encourage young women to grow and reach their full potential by providing an opportunity to play the game we all love," said Jets President Hymie Elhai. "The league expansion and the implementation of the Jets' mentorship program furthers our commitment to helping young women in our area achieve their goals and realize what is possible."

The Jets committed to offer funding for a girls flag football team for next year at Wayne Hills High School. The school board is seeking to fund a team for Wayne Hills so the programs start at the same time.

“We are extremely excited to partner with the Jets organization and offer our female student athletes opportunities to demonstrate their athletic abilities in the upcoming 2022 spring flag football season," Dave Drozjock, Wayne Valley's assistant principal of athletics. "In addition, our girls will have an opportunity to be involved in a one-on-one mentorship program with female members of the Jets organization and business staff members."
