WAYNE, NJ — Wayne's Brentwood Plaza Shopping Center could see another business replace Party City before too long, as the company is auctioning off all its leases in the United States.

The party supplies retailer is planning wind down operations, and going-out-of-business sales are ongoing at its 695 locations across the United States.

Party City has two stores in Passaic County: In Wayne, at 1625 NJ-23 and in Clifton Commons, at 385 NJ-3.

A&G Real Estate Partners is facilitating the auction, and said the bid deadline and auction will likely be in early February. This includes 26 in the Garden State — its remaining 25 locations, and a store in East Brunswick that did not open, according to A&G.

The company has not responded to Patch's email seeking an exact closing date for the Wayne store.

Party City was hit hard when people stopped having parties during the COVID-19 pandemic and has struggled since with supply chain issues and inflation. The company also has said a helium shortage hurt its business. The retailer also faced growing competition from big-box retailers such as Walmart and Target, and holiday pop-up stores like Spirit Halloween.
