Man, 83, Struck And Killed By Car In Wayne: Authorities

The incident occurred Tuesday evening in the area of Hamburg Turnpike and Mountain Ridge Road, authorities said.

WAYNE, NJ - An 83-year-old man was struck and killed by a car Tuesday night in Wayne, according to authorities.

Around 6:40 p.m., police were dispatched to the area of Hamburg Turnpike and Mountain Ridge Road on a report of a pedestrian hit by a car, the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office said.

Further investigation revealed the pedestrian, Stuart Kahlenberg, a township resident, was crossing Hamburg Turnpike when he was struck by a 2013 Volvo S60 driven by John Farraye, 56, also of Wayne, according to the prosecutor's office.

Kahlenberg was pronounced deceased at 9:02 p.m. at Saint Joseph's University Hospital, the prosecutor's office said.

No other vehicles were involved in this collision, and Farraye remained on scene and presented a valid license, authorities said.

No charges have been filed at this time, however this investigation remains ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available, the prosecutor's office said.
