Man Nabbed For 2 October Shootings In North Jersey, Cops Say

One of the shootings put a 20-year-old man in the hospital, police said.

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — A Paterson man has been arrested after he was found to be responsible for not one, but two shootings in the area last month, Passaic County prosecutors said.

Vincent Santiago, 20, was arrested on Oct. 27 after an investigation led police to believe he had been behind two Paterson shootings, one of which put a man in the hospital, police said.

The first shooting happened on Oct. 11, just before 12:30 p.m. in the area of Arch Street and North 1st Street. Police responding to shots fired in the area found that nobody had been hit by the gunfire.

The next shooting took place on Oct. 23 around 10:45 p.m. in the same area. This time, police found a 20-year-old gunshot victim and rushed him to a nearby hospital. He was treated for non-fatal gunshot wounds.

After an investigation led police to believe Santiago was the gunman on both occasions, he was issued a slew of charges.

Santiago is charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child, in addition to several other weapons charges. Police did not specify in what context a child’s welfare was endangered in either of the instances.

Santiago was subjected to pre-trial detention as he awaits court proceedings.
