Meet Passaic County's First Baby Of 2025

Baby Gabriel's parents welcomed him into the world shortly after 8 a.m. on New Year's Day, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson.

PATERSON, NJ — A Paterson couple welcomed their second child on New Year's Day 2025, along with a number of other New Jersey parents who celebrated new life in the new year.

Baby Gabriel Raniel Martinez Abreu was the first new arrival in Passaic County this year. He was born to parents Rafielys Baez and Robert Martinez Tavarez just after 8 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Joseph's University Medical Center.

The hospital shared a photo of parents with their new son, and said he weighed in at 7 pounds, 10 ounces.

The end of 2024 also marked the end of "Generation Alpha," according to social researcher Mark McCrindle, who coined the term. Thus, these New Jersey newborns are some of the first members of Generation Beta, which will last until 2039.
