PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — Looking for a new friend? So is Winston.

Winston, considered the senior “OG” resident at the City of Passaic Animal Shelter, has been waiting to be adopted for more than 506 days.

The 85-pound Pitbull-mix is beloved by the staff at the Animal Shelter, and workers are hoping someone who believes in second chances will feel the same way about him.

“(Winston’s) time here feels like a sentence he should never have to serve,” said DeAndre Boatwright, the shelter’s Supervising Animal Control Officer. “Like many of us, he has made a few mistakes, but those should not define the rest of his life…Winston is deeply beloved at the shelter. Everyone who meets him sees the wisdom in his eyes, the gentleness in his spirit, and the quiet courage that
keeps him going.”

A 501 (c) (3) rescue, Heart and Soul Dog Rescue Inc., is ready to take Winston in; however, a fosterer is still needed.

Winston, while gentle in general, according to the shelter, has a temper with smaller dogs. So he may not be the best-suited furry friend for your Pomeranian.

Winston is around 7 to 9 years old, and the shelter hopes he can spend the rest of his days with a loving family.

“As the leaves change and fall begins, Winston deserves to walk out of here into a home where he can finally rest,” Boatwright said. “His story does not belong behind shelter walls. It belongs in a living room, on a couch, beside someone who believes in second chances.”

Located at 13 Benson Avenue in Passaic, Passaic Animal Shelter is a no-kill shelter that offers several resources for adoption, neutering/spaying, and other pet-related services.
