'Model Citizen' Richie Shouted Out As A Wayne Star Student: Here's Why

WAYNE, NJ — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Crystal Olson who nominated Richard aka "Richie," a fourth-grader from Wayne. Crystal works at Richie's elementary school, and said he is "an old soul" who is reliable and wise beyond his years.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Richie has been a model citizen at Ryerson Elementary Schools since he began in kindergarten. Richie is what some call ‘wise beyond his years’ - he seems to possess more knowledge and experience than most people have at his age. He is an old soul, and demonstrates an understanding of someone that would typically be much older. When it comes to being able to count on someone, Richie is it. He is reliable, responsible, and kind to others. Richie is an asset to the elementary school community, and he is well loved by students and staff alike.
