New 2-Story Mosque Could Sit On 10-Acre Wayne Plot

A religious nonprofit purchased the ten-acre plot last year and is moving forward with its plans to build a new mosque.

WAYNE, NJ — A newly purchased plot of land in Wayne could become a home to a brand new mosque, according to developers.

In 2024, religious nonprofit IPRAY House Inc. purchased ten acres of land in the heart of Wayne. It was a step towards the nonprofit's vision of building an Islamic community center at 225 Colfax Road.

According to IPRAY House, the land was purchased for $850,000 using “generous contributions of our donors.”

“This milestone is a testament to the grace of Allah and the power of the community. We are inspired by the hadith, ‘Whoever builds a masjid for Allah, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise’ (Sahîh al-Bukhârî and Sahîh Muslim),” an IPRAY House statement read. “Our vision for the mosque goes beyond a place of worship; we aim to create a space where the community can gather, learn, and grow together in faith and unity.”

The site almost became a 27,000-square-foot table tennis facility until the application was withdrawn in 2019. Now, IPRAY House is looking to build a two-story 19,963-square-foot Islamic community center.

According to the proposed architectural plans, the building's dome would be 35 feet high, with its two minarets just over 50 feet off the ground.

The proposed site would also provide wrap-around parking options for more than 250 vehicles.

The property is currently densely wooded, so tree removal would be required before any bricks are laid.

IPRAY House is moving forward with the development, architectural, and construction process of the proposed mosque and has submitted its plans to Wayne Township. The Board of Adjustment is expected to meet with the developers early next year to discuss the proposal.

IPRAY House was founded in 2021 by local families who are committed to promoting Islamic values, education, and communal harmony.” Click here to learn more about the nonprofit and its plans.
