More Street Closures In Wayne As Flood Warnings Persist: Latest Info

Moderate flooding is forecast for communities along the Passaic River, and affected residents are urged to move vehicles to higher ground.

WAYNE, NJ — Another rainstorm is beginning to flood local roadways in Wayne, and in neighborhoods that have already been soaked with water.

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the Passaic and Wanaque rivers that could affect local communities, including Wayne Township. More than two and a half inches of rain have fallen in Wayne, with a chance of more precipitation and fog into the evening.

As of Thursday at 5:25 p.m., Fayette Ave is closed from Somers Place to Fairfield Road in the Mountain View area of Wayne. Ryerson Avenue is closed at Walker Avenue.

Per the NWS, the Passaic River at Pine Brook is at minor flood stage on Thursday afternoon, and is expected to continue rising to a crest of 20.2 feet early Saturday morning.

This could possibly affect traffic on Two Bridges Road going into Lincoln Park and Route 46 East headed to Fairfield, weather officials said.

The Passaic River is also expected to reach moderate flood stage by Saturday at both the Little Falls and Signac-area monitoring stations, though is not expected to crest as high as it did last week. This could mean some flooding again in the Old Wayne area of town, and by Wayne Town Center.

Wayne Police urged residents of areas recently affected by flooding to move vehicles to higher ground, monitor water levels, and prepare for a possible evacuation as rain continues throughout the day.

"River levels are projected to enter minor flood stage tonight and continue into Saturday," police said on Thursday morning. "All residents of areas recently affected by flooding are urged to move vehicles to higher ground and monitor water levels."
