Officials Reveal Cause For Wayne’s Willowbrook Mall Evacuation

The mall is now reopened and operating on its regular schedule, officials said.

WAYNE, NJ — Representatives from the Willowbrook Mall have revealed the reason for the mass evacuation that took place this past Sunday.

According to officials, a small outlet fire occurred near the mall’s food court, prompting security officials to “quickly” contain it.

Following the fire, Wayne Fire Department officials arrived at the scene and evacuated shoppers and staff to conduct a safety inspection.

The inspection was completed, and the mall reopened about an hour later, except for the food court.

A health inspector surveyed the food court before it was deemed safe to reopen.

Officials added that the wiring issues that caused the fire were repaired overnight, and the mall is currently open and operating on its regular schedule.

“We appreciate the cooperation of our shoppers and tenants and thank the Wayne Fire Department and local officials for their swift support,” Willowbrook Mall representatives told Patch.
