Portnoy Reviews 2 More Passaic County Pizzerias: See The Scores

Wayne wasn't the only place where "El Presidente" stopped to sample pizza offerings recently. Check out who else made the "One Bite" list:

LITTLE FALLS, NJ —Two more pizza joints in Passaic County have gotten their time in the spotlight, after Dave Portnoy stopped in to review their pies for his popular online series.

Portnoy is the founder of Barstool Sports, and known by pizza-lovers across the Internet as a discerning critic in his "One Bite" reviews. There's also an app where users can rate and review local spots, and tell Portnoy which ones he's missed in his quest to find the perfect pizza.

After swinging by Wayne Ale House to sample their "monster" 24-inch pizza, Portnoy also went to Spinachio Pizza in North Haledon (5 Sicomac Rd) and Jojo's Pizza in Little Falls (104 Main Street) — and the reviews are in.

He orders a cheese pizza at every stop, noting the appearance and style before he takes a bite and gives his commentary on the flavors and crust. Each pizza place is given a rating out of 10, with only one perfect 10 on record — back in 2015, at Monte's Restaurant in his home state of Massachusetts.

At Spinachio, which is owned by sisters Zana Kaloshi and Ardiana Gashi, Portnoy got a super-thin "skinny" cheese pie and praised the crust's "undercarriage" and lack of "flop."

"Tastes like a big bar pie," Portnoy (who is known for enjoying tavern-style pizzas), started out.

He commented on how the cheese also went all the way down to the crust.

"I wish it had a little more crust, that's the only thing I'm thinking about right now," he said as he chewed.

He gave it an 8.1 after debating the final score, and the owners celebrated as he walked back in to deliver the review.

"Really good, I enjoyed it," he told them.

Several members of the New Jersey Pizza Alliance were there eating at the same time, and the owners had apparently just been talking about Portnoy before he arrived.

Kaloshi and Gashi even convinced him to try their signature spinach pie, which is their grandmother's recipe. Another customer also hyped up the spinach pizza.

Though not generally a fan of spinach, Portnoy gave it a try...but no review score this time.

"I don't not like it," he said. "(But) I would never, in a million years, pick this over cheese."

Portnoy's review of Jojo's was a bit more brief, and he spent some time commenting on their signage in the window being "too generic."

After biting into his cheese slice, he had made up his mind.

"This pizza tastes exactly how that sign looks," he said. "Not awful. 6.8."

Other past reviews in Passaic County include the aforementioned Wayne Ale House, along with Sun-Ray Pizza in Little Falls several years ago.
