Pascrell had filed to run for a 15th term this November. After he died, the Passaic County Democratic Committee selected State Sen. Nellie Pou (D-35), a fellow Paterson native, as their nominee for U.S. House.
Pou is running against U.S. Air Force veteran Billy Prempeh, who has been the Republican nominee in District 9 since the 2020 election (and is also from Paterson). And, two third-party candidates made their bids for the district: Benjamin Taylor of the Green Party, and Libertarian Bruno Pereira.
