Protect Your Pets At Free Rabies Shot Clinic Coming Up In Wayne

WAYNE, NJ — Cat and dog owners who need to get their pet's rabies vaccine updated can do so at Wayne Township's next free clinic in November.

The township sponsors these events several times a year, to give animal owners the opportunity to get their pet vaccinated without having to pay fees at their regular veterinarian to do so.

The next clinic will be on Sunday, Nov. 17 at Captain Kilroy Memorial Park (6 Concord Place) from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Dogs must be restrained on a non-retractable leash to allow for quick, easy transfer to the veterinarian or technician. Cats must be transported in a suitable carrier or container to prevent escape.

Puppies and kittens under three months of age are generally considered too young to receive a rabies vaccine, according to the state Department of Health.

Proof of a 2024 license is required for pets to get their rabies vaccine. Residents who did not license their dogs or cats this year may do so after Wayne's Rabies Clinic by going to the township's website and using the Citizen Self-Service Portal.

Fees for dog and cat licenses range from $8 to $16.20, based on the type of animal and if they are spayed/neutered or not. An additional $10 late fee will be charged for animals licensed after Feb. 15. Further information is available on the township service portal linked above.
