PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — Passaic County turned out to be a key one in this year’s gubernatorial race, becoming one of five that flipped blue to help Mikie Sherrill become the governor-elect, according to the Associated Press.
In 2024, a majority of Passaic County voters supported Republican Donald Trump in the Presidential Election, turning the county red. This year, voters supported Democrat Sherrill to become the Garden State’s next governor.
Among the five counties that flipped this year, Passaic County had the widest margin, with Morris County having the tightest.

- Mikie Sherrill: 82,152 votes (57.06%)
- Jack Ciattarelli: 60,649 votes (42.13%)
- Vic Kaplan: 577 votes (.4%)
- Joanne Kuniansky: 431 votes (.3%)
As the numbers stand, Sherrill beat Republican Ciattarelli by 21,503 votes in Passaic County. Even if Kaplan and Kuniansky voters, as well as the 155 write-in voters, supported Ciattarelli instead, Sherrill would still have a lead of more than 20,300 votes.
A total of 145,980 votes were cast from Passaic County in the 2025 Gubernatorial Election. With 338,614 registered voters in the county, that’s a voter turnout of 43.11 percent.
How Wayne Voted
Approximately one-third of all Wayne voters voted for Mikie Sherrill, with a majority voting for Ciattarelli.
Most voting districts that had Ciattarelli ahead had him ahead by wide margins.
The overwhelming majority voted Republican, which is reflected in the township’s local race as well.
