See Who Yankees, Mets Picked In The MLB Draft 2021

Here's who the Yankees and Mets selected during the 2021 MLB draft, and which prospects from New Jersey were picked.

NEW YORK CITY — Fans of the New York Yankees and Mets got a glimpse of what the future may hold with the 2021 MLB Draft, which ended on July 13.

The Mets had the No. 10 selection in the draft, and selected one of the biggest names in the draft with Vanderbilt University pitcher Kumar Rocker. Overall, the team made 20 selections in this year's draft. View them all here.

With the No. 20 selection, the Yankees took Trey Sweeney, a shortstop from Eastern Illinois, with the first of their 20 selections. View them all here.

The Pittsburgh Pirates selected Louisville catcher Henry Davis with the first overall selection. Jack Leiter, who many thought could be the first overall pick, went second to the Texas Rangers.

Marcelo Mayer, a shortstop from Eastlake High School in California, was rated as the No. 1 draft prospect by MLB.com, but didn't get selected until the Boston Red Sox picked him up at No. 4.

Aside from the Yankees and Mets stocking up for the future, baseball fans in New Jersey may recognize the names of some players who will be selected from college and high school.

The draft’s top prospects are scattered across the country. From New Jersey, Anthony Solometo was considered to be the best player available, according to MLB.com. Though Solometo was ranked 10 spots ahead of fellow pitcher and New Jersey native Chase Petty, Petty went 11 spots higher to the Minnesotta Twins at pick 26.

Solometo didn't have to wait long, however, with the Pittsburgh Pirates picking him up at No. 37.
