WAYNE, NJ — After a period of community input, Wayne Township Public Schools has officially posted a job advertisement for the district superintendent — a "significant step" in the lengthy and involved process.

Feedback from parents, students, teachers, and staff helped the school board and their search partner Comengo Education Institute understand "the community's vision for the future leadership of our schools," the Board of Education said in an update on Feb. 14.

More than 900 community members took an online survey regarding the qualities they think are important for a superintendent, their ideal candidates' past experience, and what their hopes are for the future of the district. Others weighed in on their priorities for the district at a series of community forums.

“We are confident that the robust stakeholder input we have received, combined with the expertise of Comegno Educational Institute, has positioned us to attract exceptional candidates who are passionate about leading Wayne Public Schools to continued success," he said.

Ideal candidates will be "visionary educators" who have exceptional communication skills and are prepared to build strong relationships with staff, students, parents, community members, and the BOE, the job posting states.

Preferred qualifications for the next superintendent include someone with experience as a superintendent or a district administrator, and with experience in special education and disability accommodation.

The deadline for applications is March 3.
