Soccer Club In Wayne Joins Nation's Top Pro-Development League

PASCO Soccer Club has long served youth. But with a new adult program, the club will soon compete in United Premier Soccer League.

WAYNE, NJ — Wayne has plenty to boast about when it comes to sports — from the 1970 Little League World Series title to the namesake horse of the Preakness Stakes to the world-class figure skaters who trained at the Ice Vault Arena. But soon, a Wayne-based club will compete in a top soccer league.

PASCO Soccer Club will become part of the United Premier Soccer League — North America's largest and most competitive pro-development league for the sport, according to PASCO Soccer Club President Dave Vivino.

The Wayne-based club has been around since 1996, promoting boys and girls travel-soccer programs for ages 3-18. But the PASCO Soccer Club recently became part of the UPSL and will offer amateur-level adult teams.

The club plans to onboard two men's squads and one women's team for the first year of its adult programs, with the top men's squad competing in Division I of the UPSL. The second men's team and the top women's squad will compete in local adult leagues.

"Being part of a league like the UPSL is a great honor as they continue to expand and provide a competitive environment," Vivino said. "Having these teams will also be a great example for our younger players to look up to and see how far they can go."

The UPSL began in 2011 and sports more than 300 teams throughout the nation. The league occupies the fourth tier in the U.S. Soccer pyramid. Major League Soccer and the National Women's Soccer League hold the first tier for men and women, respectively, while various professional leagues occupy the second and third tiers.
