Warming Centers Open In Passaic County Amid Bitter Cold Temperatures
Forecasters say to expect frigid conditions for the next few days despite the sunshine, with wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour possible.
WAYNE, NJ — Whipping winds and cold temperatures are in store around North Jersey for the next several days, and Passaic County has activated several warming centers for anyone in need of shelter.
Forecasters said that high temperatures in Wayne will hover around 30 degrees through Thursday, but blustery winds will make it feel much colder, especially on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Wind chill values are predicted to be between 10 and 15 degrees on these two days, with gusts as high as 44 miles per hour on Tuesday.

According to nj211.org, the county has a Code Blue in place from Tuesday, Jan. 7 until Friday, Jan. 10, lasting overnight from 9 p.m. until 11 a.m. the next day. This alert mobilizes local officials and agencies to help make shelter arrangements for adults experiencing homelessness or who need shelter.

The cold weather can also cause water pipes and meters to freeze in local homes and apartments. Wayne residents who have a frozen water meter may call the Water Division at 973-694-5090, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Click here for more winter weather tips.
Meteorologists are also tracking a second winter storm that could bring additional snow to the Garden State, after some communities saw 8 inches or more on Monday.
