WAYNE, NJ — Keep those umbrellas handy, Wayne Township — this week's forecast calls for several days of rain, and chiller temperatures to begin April.
Between two and three inches of rain are expected over the next few days as part of a developing coastal storm, according to the National Weather Service. Light rainfall began on Monday across the state, with periods of rain expected to last into Thursday.
"While significant flooding is not currently anticipated, rises can be expected on creeks, streams, and rivers as well as minor flooding and ponding of low lying, poor drainage, and urban areas," NWS forecasters said.

Tuesday and Wednesday look to be the days with most significant rainfall, and forecasters said that a few late afternoon or evening thunderstorms are also possible Tuesday.
The rain is expected to taper off by Thursday afternoon, bringing in partly sunny skies with highs in the upper 40s.

Tuesday: Rain. High near 48. East wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Tuesday Night: Rain. Low around 40. East wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Wednesday: Rain. Steady temperature around 42. East wind 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
Wednesday Night: Rain. Low around 37. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Thursday: Rain likely, mainly before 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 47. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.
Thursday Night: A 30 percent chance of rain before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34.
Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 49.
Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36.
