Wayne's New Watering Policies: Here’s When You Can Water Your Lawn

In an effort to conserve water, the township's Sewer and Water Department has implemented permanent lawn-watering policies.

WAYNE, NJ — New watering policies are in effect, permanently, for Wayne property owners.

The Wayne Water and Sewer Department has implemented a permanent, alternate-day watering schedule for residents in an attempt to conserve water.

“Most automated lawn sprinklers are typically set to run on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and on these days, Wayne sees a significant increase in water usage compared to the remaining days of the week,” a township statement read. “The new regulation allows even-numbered properties to water lawns and landscaping on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and odd-numbered properties to water on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.”
