William Paterson University Hosts Green A-Fair April 1

The free A-Fair will feature speakers and vendors on the the college campus.

William Paterson University will hold its 7th Annual Green A-Fair on Wednesday, April 1, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the University Commons on campus, which will feature organizations and companies discuss sustainability, environmental issues and resourceful living.

The free annual event, which is hosted by the University’s Climate Action Committee and Earth First Student Action Committee, will also feature a vendor fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room on the main level of the University Commons, where more than 30 vendors and organizations including City Green, the National Park Service, the Avian Wildlife Center, New Jersey Marine Fisheries, and the Laurelwood Arboretum will be in attendance.

A teach-in on a variety of environmental issues will be held starting at 9:30 a.m. in University Commons Room 216. Barbara Thomas and Keith Monahan of GMO Free NJ, a grass roots awareness/action group dedicated to food choice freedom, will speak about genetically engineered foods, commonly known as GMOs.

Brian Blum, a geologist and an associate at Langan Engineering and Environmental Services, will discuss geothermal heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, while Renee Allessio, the Right to Know coordinator for the Passaic County Health Department, will discuss the health issues associated with exhaust from idling cars.

Other speakers include Amanda Nesheiwat, environmental coordinator for Secaucus, who will talk about youth efforts in sustainable development, and Greg Mattison, chair of the William Paterson University Strategic Plan Green Team, who will outline William Paterson’s many sustainability initiatives.
