Man Hits Cop In Face, Injures Another While Trying To Flee Arrest In Union County: Police

The driver was in a stolen Range Rover.

ROSELLE, NJ - Two officers were injured trying to arrest the driver of a stolen vehicle in Roselle on Thursday night.

At around 8 p.m., two Roselle Police Officers saw a 2020 Land Rover Range Rover that did not stop for a stop sign. Police also found the car had fake plates and was stolen out of Watchung.

Officers had initially been in the area of W. 6th Ave. and Washington Ave. checking radar for speeding.

Donovan White, 31 of Roselle, started to drive away as the officers were trying to take him into custody. While police were in the SUV, he hit one of them in the face, causing minor injuries. More officers responded and aided in safely subduing White before placing him under arrest.

According to Roselle Police, both officers suffered minor injuries and are on track for full recoveries.

White is charged with receiving stolen property, aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest (2 counts), and obstruction of the administration of law. He was taken to the Union County Jail and is awaiting a detention hearing.
