Westfield To Celebrate America's 250th Birthday With 2026 Slate Of Events (patch.com) — Westfield is gearing up for America’s 250th birthday with a full slate of local events stretching into 2026, starting with a New Year’s Day guided walk along the Charles Addams Heritage Trail. Families can also register for a January LEGO Westfield build at Westfield High School, recreating town landmarks and exploring local history as part of the broader America250 celebration.

Car Stolen, Home Broken Into In Westfield: Police (patch.com) — Westfield residents are being alerted after a home on Colonial Avenue was broken into around 3:30 a.m. Thursday and a blue 2024 Land Rover was stolen from the driveway. Police say vehicle thefts typically rise in Westfield during the holidays and urge anyone with information or who notices suspicious activity to contact the Westfield Police Department or call 9-1-1.
   

3. Westfield Library MLK Day Of Service Volunteer Fair (goleader.com) — Westfield Memorial Library is hosting its third annual MLK Day of Service Volunteer Fair on Sunday, January 18, from 2–4 p.m. at 550 E. Broad Street. Residents can meet local and regional nonprofits, from Friends of Brightwood Park to the Westfield Green Team, and get matched with volunteer roles for 2026 that fit their age, schedule, and interests.
   

4. Mike Schatzman of Washington Township is the N.J. Football Coach of the Year for 2025 (nj.com subscription) — New Jersey has named Washington Township’s Mike Schatzman the 2025 statewide Football Coach of the Year after leading his team to a 14-0 season and a Group 5 title. Westfield gets a nod in the history section, where former Blue Devils coach Jim DeSarno is listed among past winners of this prestigious coaching honor.
   

5. A House vote is coming on ACA subsidies, but N.J. Republicans may not be on board (newjerseyglobe.com) — Westfield’s congressman, Tom Kean Jr., is in the spotlight as the U.S. House prepares to vote on extending Affordable Care Act subsidies, but he hasn’t said whether he backs the main Democratic bill. New Jersey Democrats are pressuring Kean and another GOP representative, arguing they talked up keeping subsidies yet declined to sign a key petition, leaving many residents’ 2026 health premiums uncertain.
