WESTFIELD, NJ — The 2022 General Election is quickly approaching, and it is important Westfield residents know who is on the ballot and how they can vote this year.

The Ballot

After Councilman of Ward 1 James Boyes stepped down from the council in April, citing a conflict of interest, a vacancy was left on the Westfield Town.

Councilwoman Emily Root (Democrat) was appointed to fill the Ward 1 vacancy and is now running again, as the term expires in 2022.

Resident Amanda Como (Republican) is running against Root for the Ward 1 seat.

There is no Board of Education election this November. The Board voted to push the election to April in order for the public to vote on the district's budget.

Westfield voters will also get to vote for a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. In the 7th Congressional District, current Democratic Rep. Tom Malinowski is running against Republican Tom Kean Jr.

Residents will also get to vote on three members for the Union County Board of County Commissioners. You can check out a sample ballot here.

How To Vote

There are several ways you can vote this year:

Vote By Mail

The deadline to apply by mail for a mail-in ballot is Tuesday, Nov. 1. The deadline to apply in-person at the Elizabeth and Westfield County Clerk Offices for a mail-in ballot is Monday, Nov. 7 at 3:00 PM. Mail-in ballots can be returned in person or by mail to the Union County Board of Elections office, or at the secure ballot drop box located at the County Clerk’s Office at 300 North Avenue.

Early In-Person Voting
Union County residents have the option to vote early at specified locations throughout the county beginning on Saturday, Oct. 29, through Sunday, Nov. 6. Locations, dates, and times for early voting are available on the Union County Board of Elections website.

In-Person Voting on Election Day
The General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 8. Polls will be open from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM. A list of Westfield Wards and Districts is available on its website.
