Fraud, DWI Arrests Reported In Westfield

Westfield Police released its blotter for the timeframe between Aug. 3 to Aug. 9:

WESTFIELD, NJ — Multiple incidents of fraud and driving while intoxicated arrests were reported in Westfield recently.

Westfield Police Blotter – Aug. 3 to Aug. 9:

On Aug. 3 at 8 a.m.: A resident of the 700 block of Scotch Plains Avenue reports suspected credit card fraud. The victim reports that a purchase was made on an athletic wear website several weeks in the past using his credit card. Unauthorized purchases from the same website were then made on Aug. 3 and Aug. 4 for a total amount of $2,100 using the same credit card account.

On Aug. 4 at 10:02 p.m.: Officer Perconte initiated a motor vehicle stop in the area of Clark Place near Ferris Place for a red-light violation. While speaking with the driver and registered owner of the vehicle, Meg Joyce, 36, of Linden, he detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the interior passenger compartment of the motor vehicle. After a thorough investigation, Joyce was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. She was then taken to Westfield Police Headquarters, where she was processed and released to a sober adult.

On Aug. 6 at 1:22 p.m.: A resident from Sandra Circle reported receiving a letter in the mail stating that she opened an account with Wells Fargo. Attached to the letter was a debit card. After inquiring into the matter with Wells Fargo Bank, the fraudulent account was closed. No monetary loss was suffered at this time.

On Aug. 7 at 11:33 a.m.: A resident of the 200 block of Charles Street reported his identity was used to open a T-Mobile account without his knowledge. The resident got a letter to his home stating an account registered under his name was suspended. The matter was reported to the local T-Mobile branch, and an incident report was also filed for documentation purposes.

On Aug. 7 at 9:16 p.m.: Patrol officers arrested Abigail Moreno, 23, of Westfield, for DWI on West Grove Street pursuant to a motor vehicle accident investigation at W. Grove Street and Carleton Road. She was taken to Westfield Police Headquarters, processed, and released to a sober adult.

On Aug. 8 at 1:14 p.m.: A resident from the 700 block of Norgate reported that his credit card was compromised and fraudulent charges were applied at various institutions totaling around $3,478.59. The credit card has since been canceled, and a new card issued.

On Aug. 9 at 12:57 a.m.: The Westfield Police Department secured a wallet that was found in the Central Business District. It had been turned in by an anonymous party. The item contained cash as well as a personal item. The item was secured for safekeeping.
