Charges Filed After 3 Westfield Businesses Burglarized
The 38-year-old from Newark was arrested in connection with stealing money from two Westfield restaurants and a nail salon, police said.
WESTFIELD, NJ — A Newark man has been charged with burglarizing three Westfield businesses on the 200 block of West South Avenue during the early morning hours of Sept. 6, according to an announcement from Chief Christopher Battiloro.
Onajii Campbell, 38, was charged with three counts each of criminal mischief, third-degree burglary and theft, Battiloro said.
Spokesperson Michael Walsh previously told Patch that the businesses that were burglarized include Manhattan Bagel, Bow Nail and Spa and Domino’s Pizza.

A fourth business, Nail Boutique, was also burglarized that day, but Campbell was not charged in connection with this incident. A total of $920 was stolen from the businesses, according to the police blotter.

In each instance, Battiloro said Campbell is accused of forcing entry into the locked businesses through their front doors by breaking the door locks.
Once inside, he either opened cash registers in the stores or outright stole them from the premises, Battiloro said. The cash registers that were stolen were subsequently discarded nearby after their contents had been removed, according to the Chief.
Campbell received criminal complaints in late December while incarcerated in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold. He is currently being held there on burglary charges from other jurisdictions, Battiloro said.
Chief Battiloro credited collaboration and information sharing among various law enforcement agencies from other jurisdictions, as well as the investigative work of Detective Elizabeth Savnik, in Campbell’s identification as a suspect in the Westfield incidents.
