Nearly $15K Stolen From Westfield Home: Police

Two BMWs were also targeted in an attempted carjacking.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Two people were able to get away with an estimated $15,000 worth of stolen items after breaking into a home and trying to also steal two cars, Westfield Police said.

On Nov. 8, officers responded to the 600 block of Coolidge St. after a burglary alarm went off at around 6:15 a.m. They noticed signs that someone had tried to break into the home through the rear glass door on the south side of the building.

Nobody was home when they arrived. A kitchen drawer was left open and showed signs of being searched with a variety of items thrown on the ground.

Surveillance footage from the homeowner showed two people had been able to get into the home at around 6:12 a.m. through a damaged front window screen after initially trying to open the front door. One of the suspects was also wearing a face mask.

A BMW X5 could be seen in the road waiting to drive away with the suspects, authorities said.

A second video showed the two people trying to open a 2020 black BMW 440 and a 2021 black BMW X6 that were parked in the driveway before leaving the property. After they were unable to get into the cars, they ran away with what looked to be handbags or purses in the west direction towards Salter Place.

According to the homeowner, the items stolen totaled $14,700 in value.
