Pink Ribbons Line Mindowaskin Park for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

When a friend of Debby Burslem’s, President of The Friends of Mindowaskin Park, told her that nobody in Westfield was tying the Susan G. Komen pink ribbons in town for Breast Cancer Awareness month, Burslem thought it was a perfect opportunity for the park’s organization.

Burslem’s friend works for Susan G. Komen and Burslem thought it was a great opportunity for The Friends of Mindowaskin Park to tie the ribbons and a way for something good to be done.

“I lost a couple of dear friends to it, so it’s always been close to me,” Burslem said on a personal level. “I thought this was a nice way – a good community awareness way to manage it in the park.”

After asking the board of The Friends of Mindowaskin Park, who all agreed to tying the ribbons in the park, several of the members spend Saturday morning lining the park with ribbons.

The council also approved the ribbons, since the Town owns the park, Burslem added.

Ribbons for breast cancer and ribbons for any disease are all about awareness, she said.

“Hopefully it reminds people get a mammogram, see a doctor,” Burslem said. “We lose way too many men and women – too many good people too early and the world needs more good people.“
