Scooter Rider Hit By Car In Westfield: Police

The scooter rider from Garwood was rushed to Morristown Medical Center following the crash on Monday, police said.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A 21-year-old Garwood man riding a scooter was hit by a car in Westfield on Monday, according to police.

The driver, a 53-year-old woman from Mountainside, stopped at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Maple Street at around 9:14 p.m. and told police that she did not see the scooter rider when she attempted to make a left turn.

The woman told police that she could not see the man due to his dark clothing and his scooter light not working.

However, the scooter rider told police that the woman did not stop at the stop sign. He said his scooter was working properly and that his light was activated before getting hit.

The man was rushed to Morristown Medical Center after reporting that he was in pain after the crash.

The driver sustained minor damage to the front grill and bumper of her car, police said.
