Trash Can Fire At Westfield Train Station Was Unintentional, Police Said

A small fire occurred at Westfield train station Monday evening, causing some commotion as people arrived home from work, police said.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield commuters were surprised with a small trash can fire at Westfield train station Monday evening.

As many were arriving home at around 5:50 p.m., a trash can next to the station's underpass was fully ablaze. The fire department quickly put out the fire upon arrival, according to Westfield spokesperson Kim Forde.

Forde said a thermal imaging camera was then used by the fire department to check the structure for fire extension, but none was found.
