WESTFIELD, NJ — A trash fire occurred at the back of QDOBA on Elm Street Wednesday afternoon, according to Fire Chief Michael Duelks.

Duelks said Westfield firefighters arrived at the Mexican restaurant on 70 Elm Street at around 12:48 p.m. after reports of smoke. Upon arrival, fire units found the fire under a steel grate at the back window.

Duelks said the trash fire damaged the housing of antenna wires and conduit. This caused smoke to fill up the basement and first floor of the building, he said.

Firefighters extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher and used smoke ejectors to clear out the basement and first floor of the restaurant, according to Duelks.

The Fire Department then restored power to the building, and PSE&G arrived at the scene and confirmed no issues with their power equipment inside the location, Duelks said.
