BREAKING: Social Media Threat Against Black Students At Kean University

Heightened security at North Jersey college in effect, school remains open with normal schedule Wednesday.

During a peaceful rally on the campus of Kean University Tuesday night, violent threats were made on social media against black students at the school, Kean University’s Police said.

The rally was designed to raise awareness of racial unrest on college campuses across the country, the school said in a statement. While the event was ongoing, anonymous tweets were made against the school’s black community and “the campus at large,” the statement said.

University police notified Homeland Security, state, county, and local municipalities, and increased security on campus. Security will remain heightened today and through the remainder of the week, police said.

The school is open Nov. 18 and classes will remain scheduled.

“We are profoundly troubled by this display of hatred which does not reflect in any way the values we hold sacred on our diverse campus,” the statement read.

Campus police urge anyone who sees anything suspicious to call 9-1-1, or the campus police at 908-737-4800.

Threats from the anonymous Twitter account were posted after 10 p.m. Tuesday night:
