Union County Pharmacy Owner Pleads Guilty To Medicaid Fraud
The New York City man pleaded guilty in federal court on Tuesday, prosecutors said.
LINDEN, NJ — A Union County pharmacy owner on Tuesday admitted to submitting falsified prescriptions as part of a scheme to defraud Medicaid and Medicare, according to federal prosecutors.
Thomas Conzo, 49, of Staten Island, New York, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to one count of health care fraud, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey said.
According to court documents, Conzo owned and operated Elite Pharmacy in Linden. From August 2022 through March 2023, Conzo submitted hundreds of thousands of dollars of fraudulent claims for prescriptions to health care benefit programs, including Medicare and Medicaid, on behalf of Elite Pharmacy.

Prosecutors said. Conzo used the credentials of pharmacists who did not work at Elite Pharmacy to review, sign or authorize those prescriptions.
Conzo faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
