Westfield Begins Auction Of Old Street Signs
Over the past year, all 1,350 signs were replaced.
WESTFIELD, NJ — The online auction for the old Westfield street signs begins Monday.
Over the past year, all of the old markers were replaced by the town in favor of larger, visually consistent signs that also incorporate a more reflective appearance for nighttime safety.
"It's a tedious process, but I can’t tell you how many requests I have gotten from people I know in town asking when the auction starts," Business Administrator Jim Gildea said in July of the sale. "There’s a lot of excitement about this, and once we launch it, we think it will be even more exciting."

The auction will run until Nov. 13. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Westfield Public Arts Commission.
In June, Gildea revealed that the new 1,350 signs will now be under the responsibility of the Town of Westfield, not Union County.

This agreement allows Westfield to replace damaged signs immediately without waiting for County assistance. It also gives Westfield the freedom to brand each sign the same way for a uniform appearance.
