Westfield Honored For Efforts Addressing Homelessness, Affordable Housing
Westfield's development of 22 units of permanent housing for homeless and at-risk veterans was highlighted.

WESTFIELD, NJ — The Town of Westfield is being honored for its efforts to help enhance and sustain supportive housing development in New Jersey.
The 2025 Municipal Award, given by the Supportive Housing Association of New Jersey, was given to Westfield based on its dedication to the Affordability Assistance Program, emergency preparedness initiatives for 100 percent affordable buildings, and encouragement of community engagement in redevelopment projects.
The Association highlighted Westfield's development of 22 units of permanent housing for homeless and at-risk veterans in collaboration with the Martin Wallberg American Legion Post 3 and the Westfield NJ Veterans Organization. The rebuilt American Legion facility will include housing and other on-site services.

According to the most recent nationwide look at the number of homeless veterans by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, there were an estimated 32,822 homeless veterans across the country in 2024. As of April 2025, New Jersey officials say there are an estimated 781 homeless veterans throughout the state.

"Westfield sets a powerful example of how local government can lead in expanding access to supportive housing," said the Supportive Housing Association.
City leaders will accept the honor at the 27th Annual Supportive Housing Conference on Nov. 14 at The Palace at Somerset Park. Registration is now open for guests.

Since 1998, the Supportive Housing Association of New Jersey has been increasing awareness, promoting opportunities, and advancing statewide access to affordable living areas. The organization is headquartered in South Orange.
