Peewee Hockey Team Raises $4.5K for Breast Cancer Awareness

The following information was provided by the Protect Ducks Hockey Team.

For a group of 11 and 12 year-old ice hockey players, scoring goals meant something more than an opportunity to win a hockey game.  For the Protec Ducks Peewee A team, scoring goals was a way to raise funds to help find a cure for breast cancer.

During the month of October, the team launched its inaugural initiative to raise awareness for breast cancer and donations to help researchers find a cure.  To raise awareness within the ice hockey community, the players wore hot pink skate laces and hot pink hockey tape on their sticks.  This seemingly simple act proved to be a terrific bonding event for the players and, judging by the positive feedback, raised awareness, and respect, from many spectators, opponents, coaches, and officials.

The team also received donations based upon goals scored or saved during the month of October. Overall, the team raised $4,500 which will be donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

The success of this worthy event could not have been achieved without the support and collective generosity of the players, families and donors.

Team members come from the following towns: Ridge, Hillsborough, Warren, Westfield, Bridgewater, and Berkeley Heights.
