Westfield Police Department Is Hiring Officers

WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield Police Department is hiring.

New Jersey Police Training Commission (PTC) certified and non-certified applications are being accepted.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be between 21 and 35 years of age
• Must have graduated from High School and have a high school diploma or a general equivalent GED
• Must possess a valid New Jersey Driver’s License
• Must submit to a complete background investigation
• Must submit to and successfully pass a medical and psychological examination
• Must have not been convicted of any violations of the laws of the State of New Jersey or the United States, except minor traffic offenses, nor shall have been convicted of any crime or offense involving moral turpitude

Recruits will be required to pass the PTC mandated physical fitness qualifications that become increasingly difficult as the police academy advances, as noted below. Applicants will be required to pass the initial minimum PTC mandated physical fitness qualifications to be eligible to move forward in the hiring process.

Initial minimum PT requirements:

• 300-meter run in 84 seconds or less
• 19 push-ups in 1 minute or less
• Vertical jump of 12.5 inches or more
• 22 sit-ups in 1 minute or less
• 1.5 mile run in 19 minutes or less

Mid-Term minimum PT requirements:

• 300-meter run in 70.1 seconds or less
• 24 push-ups in 1 minute or less
• Vertical jump of 15 inches or more
• 28 sit-ups in 1 minute or less
• 1.5 mile run in 15 minutes and 55 seconds or less

Final minimum PT requirements:

• 300-meter run in 63 seconds or less
• 26 push-ups in 1 minute or less
• Vertical jump of 16.5 inches or more
• 31 sit-ups in 1 minute or less
• 1.5 mile run in 14 minutes and 40 seconds or less

The hiring process consists of three phases:

• Physical fitness assessment based on the initial minimum PT requirements, as noted above
• 20-minute meet & greet interview
• Formal interview with the hiring panel
