Westfield's Maize Named Among Best New Restaurant In NJ To Try In 2025

Two Union County restaurants made New Jersey Monthly's list of the best new restaurants to try in New Jersey.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield's Maize was named among the best new restaurants to try in 2025 by New Jersey Monthly.

"Maize Westfield, has already made waves, landing a spot on the list of Best New Restaurants to try in NJ 2025! Located in the beautifully restored old train station, Chef Jesa and her team are serving up Mexican flavors that are too good to miss," wrote Westfield NJ - Downtown.

The magazine released the list of 21 restaurants across the Garden State in its February issue.

Owners Jesa Henneberry, a Food Network "Chopped" Champion, and Kamal Arora opened Maize Cocina & Cocktails at 301 N Avenue West this past October.

"The cool factor is on display at this modern Mexican eatery set in a turn-of-the-century train station. A charming mix of original details blends seamlessly with a rustic, modern aesthetic delivered by contemporary lighting, a sleek stone bar and warm fireplaces," wrote the magazine.

NJ Monthly goes on to compliment Maize's dishes including its charred octopus appetizer and tacos.

"From the sliced flank steak with light, crunchy maize (masa) fries to the scallops with poblano cream sauce, entrées lean light and flavorful," continued the magazine.

Maize Cocina & Cocktails was among two Union County restaurants to be included on the list. The other restaurant Bernadette can be found in Scotch Plains.

Michelin-recommended chef and Food Network's Chopped winner Melody DeGaetano opened the French-Mediterranean restaurant in February 2024.

"Bernadette is ingredient-driven, with a focus on seasonality and the idea that less is more," according to the magazine.
