WHS Marching Band Kicks Off Season On High Note

The band achieved second place in the U.S. Bands Competition on Sept. 28.

The following information was provided by the WHS Marching Band.

The Westfield High School Marching Blue Devils kicked off their 2013 competitive season on a high note, garnering second place in their group during the US Bands Gold Star Competition in Piscataway High School on Sept. 28.

The Marching Blue Devils also received awards for Best Color Guard and Best Overall Effect. The highlight of the band's performance was their opening piece, "Dream", which celebrates the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King's landmark "I Have A Dream" speech.

"The concept was not only a great foundation for a band performance, but also a fitting tribute to a highly influential figure in the country's history," Band Director Chris Vitale said.

The Marching Blue Devils have 4 more competitions this Fall, culminating with the US Bands Mid-Atlantic Regional competition in Annapolis, Maryland, where they will perform with 46 other bands from 4 states.
