Woman Attacked By Dog While Jogging In Westfield
The woman reported kicking the dog and said an unknown vehicle intervened, allowing her to run to safety and seek shelter.
WESTFIELD, NJ — A woman out on a jog was reportedly attacked by a dog in Westfield recently.
On Aug. 3 at 11:51 a.m., Officer Saunders responded to the area of Grandview Avenue and Maryland Street for a report of a dog attack.
Saunders spoke with several anonymous witnesses who said that a German Shepherd had been chasing a woman, who was later found in the 100 block of Boynton Court, according to police.

Witnesses reported that the dog had fled toward Virginia Street. A search of the area did not find the dog.
Saunders then spoke with the victim, who said she had been jogging on Maryland Street when the dog began chasing her, causing her to fall multiple times while trying to escape, said police.

The woman reported kicking the dog and noted that an unknown vehicle intervened, allowing her to run to safety and seek shelter at a home in the 100 block of Boynton Court.
Mountainside Rescue Squad responded and treated the victim, who was then taken to Overlook Hospital for further evaluation.
Officers later found the dog in the front yard of a home in the 1000 block of Boynton Avenue. No signs of blood were seen on the dog.
The dog was identified via microchip, and the owner was contacted and retrieved the animal from Westfield Police Headquarters. The owner was advised of the situation, and the Westfield Health Department was notified and will follow up with the victim.
