Hillsdale Man Charged in Crash That Flipped Car

Police arrested a 54-year-old Hillsdale man on charges he caused a car crash in Westwood Monday morning that seriously injured another driver, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said Monday.

Michael Baba allegedly ran a red light while driving west on Washington Avenue in a Toyota Camry, colliding with a Ford Explorer driven by 46-year-old Belleville resident Niall O’Hagan, Molinelli said in a release. The crash caused the SUV to flip onto its roof in a nearby yard.

Court Trustee Pushes For Assemblyman Schroeder's Arrest

New Jersey Assemblyman Robert Schroeder could face his second arrest in less than a year if a federal judge makes an order proposed by a court-appointed trustee in Schroeder's bankruptcy case.

Three creditors who previously filed a petition in U.S. Bankruptcy Court to force Schroeder into bankruptcy have withdrawn their filing, according to court records, but a trustee appointed to the case is fighting to keep it going and has sought to have Schroeder arrested for alleged contempt of court.

Washington Twp. Council Passes Generator Law

A new law in Washington Township will govern rules for the use of emergency generators for homes.

The ordinance, which was approved by the council during their meeting Monday night, came just months after Hurricane Sandyknocked out power in some township homes for two weeks.

The goal of a planned memorial to Joan D'Alessandro, the Hillsdale girl who was sexually assaulted and murdered by a neighbor 40 years ago, is to inspire people to prevent crimes against other children, according to her mother, Rosemarie D'Alessandro.

Hillsdale Officials Consider Energy-Efficient Field Lighting

Hillsdale officials are seeking a way to get out of paying a $1,100 fee charged by PSE&G eight months each year due to the large amount of electricity available at Centennial Field.

One possible option is to install new LED light fixtures, which would reduce the amount of electricity used and drop the field's annual power bill from $28,000 to $12,000, including the "standby charge."
