RIVER VALE, NJ - Township police responded to a number of incidents over the past two weeks, including motor vehicle stops that resulted in drug-related arrests.

On 1/9/20 at approximately 1:30 pm, while on motor patrol, an officer observed a vehicle travelling on Rivervale Road with a malfunctioning brake light. The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Rivervale Road near Montview Place. When the officer approached the vehicle he immediately detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. A back up officer arrived. The driver of the vehicle subsequently surrendered a bag of marijuana she had in her pocket. The vehicle was searched and an additional marijuana cigarette was located. The 23-year-old female from Newark, NJ was read her Miranda Rights and placed under arrest. She was transported to police headquarters and processed. The woman was issued a criminal complaint for Possession of Marijuana and motor vehicle summonses for Possession of CDS in a Motor Vehicle and Maintenance of Lamps. She was released pending an appearance at the River Vale Municipal Court on 1/21/20 at 3:30 pm.

On 1/9/20 at approximately 10:30 pm, while on motor patrol, an officer observed a vehicle travelling on Rivervale Road with a malfunctioning headlight. The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Rivervale Road near Grand Avenue in Montvale. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer immediately detected the odor of Marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. A back up officer arrived on scene. A passenger in the vehicle admitted having marijuana in her purse and surrendered a plastic container containing marijuana to the officer. The 24-year-old female from River Vale, NJ was read her Miranda Rights and placed under arrest. She was transported to police headquarters and processed. She was issued a criminal complaint for Possession of Marijuana and released pending an appearance at the River Vale Municipal Court on 1/21/20 at 3:30 pm. The driver was issued a warning for the malfunctioning headlight.

Drug-related arrest

On 1/13/20 at approximately 3:00 pm, while on motor patrol, an officer observed a vehicle travelling on Rivervale Road with a malfunctioning brake light. The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Brookside Avenue near Rivervale Road. As the officer approached the vehicle he immediately detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. A back up officer arrived to assist. A rear seat passenger subsequently surrendered a bag of marijuana from his jacket. The 29-year-old male from White Plains, NY was read his Miranda Rights and placed under arrest. He was transported to police headquarters and processed. The man was issued a criminal complaint for Possession of Marijuana and released pending an appearance at Central Judicial Processing Court on 1/22/20 at 8:30 am.

Warrant arrest

On 1/13/20 at approximately 10:05 pm, while on motor patrol an officer was conducting random license plate queries when the response from a vehicle travelling on Rivervale Road indicated that the registered owner had a suspended driver’s license and outstanding warrants. The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Spring Street in Harrington Park, NJ. A back up officer arrived to assist. The officer confirmed that the registered owner was the driver of the vehicle and had a suspended license and warrants from South Hackensack, NJ and River Vale, NJ for $800.00 combined. The 28-year-old male from Hackensack, NJ was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. The man posted the required bail and was issued a motor vehicle summons for Driving While License Suspended. He was released pending an appearance at the River Vale Municipal Court on 1/21/20 at 3:30 pm.
