10 Firefighters Injured Battling Bergen County Blaze
Ten firefighters in Bergen County were injured after calling in a "Mayday" during a Hillsdale house fire, the chief said.

HILLSDALE, NJ — Ten firefighters were injured early Tuesday morning after losing their water supply fighting a house fire, a Hillsdale official said.

A firefighter called in a "Mayday" while fighting the two-alarm blaze, said Chief William Farrell.
Around 3:46 a.m. the Fire Department headed to 29 Ellen Court after receiving a call about a roof fire, the chief said. Firefighters found a rear deck fire extending to the attic.

"Due to an issue with the water supply, water was briefly lost inside the building, ultimately causing a flashover," Farrell said.
A flashover happens when the intensity of a fire causes combustible material in an enclosed area to ignite.

Firefighters inside "bailed out, with one mayday being transmitted," the chief said.
The mayday was cleared and all members accounted for, he said.
Ten were taken to area hospitals for treatment, the chief said. The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said some received burns, but their injuries were determined to be non-life threatening.
The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Arson Squad and town fire marshal are investigating the blaze, Farrell said.
On Tuesday afternoon, prosecutors said that the fire was determined to be non-suspicious, but they will continue investigating.
