Fire Captain Falsified Records, Bergen County Prosecutor Says

A fire captain in Bergen County has been charged with falsifying records related to safety equipment, prosecutors said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A fire captain in Bergen County has been arrested for falsifying records, prosecutors said Friday.

Richard A. Solimando, 45, of Emerson, was charged on Friday after an investigation, said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors said that on Jan. 27, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Confidential Investigations Unit received information about alleged forgery and falsifying of records at the Emerson Fire Department.

Investigators determined that between Jan. 7 and Jan. 27, Solimando conducted improper tests for fitting respirators on members of the Emerson Fire Department, then fraudulently signed acknowledgements for each report, prosecutors said.

Friday, he was arrested in Paramus and charged with one count of third-degree forgery and one count of fourth-degree falsifying or tampering with records, prosecutors said.

He was released to await a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, prosecutors said.
