Habitat For Humanity Of Bergen Welcomes Families To New Homes

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ - Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County recently cut the ribbon on its latest project, which transformed a Washington Township site that formerly housed a VFW hall into four new townhomes.

On Saturday, the organization welcomed two families to their Jefferson Avenue homes following a ceremony attended by local officials, sponsors and donors to the project. Families in the other two townhouses moved in a few weeks ago.

“With the support of the Township of Washington, we thrilled to have completed these four quality townhomes that will help low come individuals and families move toward brighter futures,” said Maureen Cameron, Executive Director of Habitat Bergen. “This is joyful day for John and Nicoletta and their son, Johnny, who did a great job cutting the ribbon.”

For the last 25 years, Habitat Bergen has been helping low income families achieve the dream of homeownership--this most recent project brings the total number of units to 36 and the Affiliate has also completed 92 critical home repairs, according to the non-profit organization.

“We are so grateful for our many community partners,” Cameron said. “Thank you in particular to the OritaniBank Charitable Foundation, which provided a $50,000 matching grant. Also, Samsung Electronics America donated all of the appliances in the units, and Bob’s Discount Furniture provided each family with $5,000 worth of furniture.”
